ComMetrics Footprint

The ComMetrics Footprint (you are here) is a measure made up of statistics from Google PageRank, Technorati Ranking, Technorati Authority, Yahoo! InLinks and Google Blog Search. This information is calculated into an overall score. Click here to find out how we process the raw data.

What now?
Before anything is calculated, all numbers are standardized using z-scores.

Then, the z-scores for the five indicators of each blog (i.e. Google PageRank, Technorati Ranking, Technorati Authority, Yahoo! InLinks and Google Blog Search) are added up to get an overall z-score. Each indicator is given the same weight.

At this point, the overall scores are compared and rescaled using 100 as the top score.

You can also see how your blog ranks within a particular category.

Continuous improvement
We may have come up with some additional indices since this was posted that help us improve our benchmarking and ranking of social media efforts, because merely looking at the popularity of a blog or website is not a comprehensive measure.

For instance, if your blog provides tax advice, your interest is that potential costumers get in touch with you to buy services and expertise. For you, the bottom line is selling. In such a case, it might not be very helpful to have 30,000 unique visitors each month if 99 percent of them never ever buy a product from you. Hence, your focus should be on the 15 percent of your unique visitors that represent the target audience, namely those who might buy your product.
